Carbon footprint
Measure, understand, and reduce your impact.
Measuring your carbon footprint is a key step for any company that wants to better understand its climate impact. At BetterBusiness, we offer a gradual and transparent support process: from an initial partial estimate to a comprehensive low-carbon transition approach. Each method provides clear results, tailored to your needs and resources.
What is a company’s carbon footprint?
A company’s carbon footprint corresponds to the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by its activities. It helps make visible an impact that is often invisible.
Generally, three categories of emissions, called scopes, are distinguished:
- Direct emissions (scope 1): produced by your own installations or equipment, which you control directly.
- Indirect emissions related to energy (scope 2): related to the production of the energy you consume.
- Other indirect emissions (scope 3): generated by all the activities on which your company depends to operate.
Why calculate your company’s carbon footprint?
Measure
understand, and monitor your environmental impacts.
Respond
to regulatory requirements and the expectations of certification labels (VSME, B Corp).
Identify
your reduction levers and strengthen your climate strategy.
Understand
your climate impact by identifying your main sources of emissions.
Act
effectively by targeting the right reduction levers and prioritizing your actions.
Address
climate and environmental challenges, which are now at the heart of societal and economic expectations.
Prepare
for the future by anticipating regulatory obligations and building a solid and credible climate strategy.
Strengthen
the trust of your clients, partners, and employees through transparent communication.
Carbon Accounting Standards
At BetterBusiness, we are trained in the Bilan Carbone® method developed by ADEME and promoted by the Association for the Low Carbon Transition (ABC).This expertise gives us mastery of the most comprehensive methodology, compliant with international reference standards:
GHG Protocol
A global framework that structures reporting by scopes (1, 2, 3) and the principles of carbon accounting (relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, accuracy).
ISO 14064
An international standard that makes greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories auditable and verifiable by an independent third party.
UNFCCC
Consistency with the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Support from BetterBusiness
At BetterBusiness, we offer different levels of support to meet the needs, constraints, and ambitions of your company. In accordance with the methodology defined by the ABC, we propose 4 levels of approaches:
Partial carbon assessment
This first approach provides a quick snapshot of your emissions, focusing on one or two simple categories such as energy or mobility. It serves as an accessible entry point to raise awareness and initiate a reflection on your company's climate impact, without requiring too much time or resources.
Simplified carbon footprint
The simplified carbon footprint provides a comprehensive view of your emissions, integrating scopes 1 and 2 as well as some key categories from scope 3.
It is an effective way to understand where your main emission sources are, while maintaining a streamlined methodology that is suitable for small organizations or companies that are just beginning their climate initiatives.
Advanced carbon footprint
With this approach, we carry out a comprehensive and detailed assessment of your emissions. The collected data is processed with a high level of precision, allowing for a clear identification of reduction levers and the start of structuring an action plan. The advanced carbon footprint is ideal for companies wishing to integrate carbon accounting into their sustainability strategy.
Low-carbon transition approach (Bilan Carbone®)
The low-carbon transition approach represents the most developed method. Based on the Bilan Carbone® method, it allows for co-creating an ambitious climate trajectory with your teams. This approach combines thorough analysis, reduction scenarios, and a structured action plan, in order to sustainably anchor the low-carbon transition in the company's strategy and governance.
Environmental footprint
Measure, understand, and act beyond carbon
What is a company’s carbon footprint?
The environmental footprint encompasses all the impacts generated by an organization’s activities on ecosystems and natural resources. It complements the carbon footprint by integrating essential dimensions such as waste management, water, energy, circularity, and biodiversity.
Why measure your company’s environmental footprint?
Measuring the environmental footprint allows you to:
Evaluate
your material and waste flows to identify reduction levers
Structure
an integrated sustainability strategy that takes into account all environmental pressures, beyond just greenhouse gas emissions.
Strengthen
the credibility of your CSR approach by communicating a comprehensive and systemic view of your impacts.
Reference standards and methodologies
Our approach is based on recognized methodological frameworks, such as:
ISO 14001
Principles of circularity
Ellen MacArthur Foundation, etc.) to integrate reduction, reuse, and recycling into the strategy.
